Osteopathy is an established system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural and functional integrity of the body. Osteopathy is primarily a manual treatment. It is based on the principle that health depends on the maintenance of proper relationship among the various parts of the body.
According to osteopathic theory, defects in the musculoskeletal system – muscles, bones, and joints – influence the natural function of internal organs. To correct structural abnormalities, osteopathic treatment, with the hands or by mechanical means, is used.
The practitioner, the osteopath, may use manual treatment alone or in combination with the other practitioners such as your GP or other specialist, depending on the needs of the individual patient.
